Homestyle Applesauce Recipe

  Amt.

Ingredients

  Amt.

Spices

  8 Apples (mixed varieties)  1 c Sugar
  2 c Water  1 tsp. Cinnamon (powdered)
2 Tbsp. Spiced Rum  1/4 tsp. Nutmeg (ground)
2 tsp. Grenadine  1/4 tsp. Clove (powdered)

Directions:

Roughly peel apples (leaving narrow strips of peel behind). Core and chop roughly (approx. 8-10 pcs. per apple).

Place in large pot and add water. Slowly bring to a boil.

Stirring periodically, boil for 15+ minutes until apples start to give when pressed against the side ofthe pot.

Stir in sugar, cinnamon, clove, and nutmeg. Cook for two more minutes.

Remove pot from heat and place on firm surface that won't burn. Using large potato masher, mash apples until largest pieces are roughly 3/8" across.

Return to heat, and bring back to a boil.

Add rum and grenadine. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook off the alcohol (it should only take a minute or two).

Serve warm or chilled

Notes:

Tastes like apple pie.

Freezes and reheats extremely well.
